Pain Control

We will actually start a pain management regimen the night before surgery in order to get the pain medications in your system in preparation for your operation.

This will include medications such as:

* Celebrex (a prescription anti-inflammatory)
* Lyrica (a prescription that treats nerve pain)
* Tylenol (acetaminophen)

These medications will be continued in the hospital with the addition of a stronger pain medication such as Oxycodone or Dilaudid.

You will be discharged from the hospital with prescriptions of the above medications to take for postoperative pain to help you remain comfortable while at home.

Following surgery you will also be asked to take Aspirin to prevent against blood clots. Alternatively, some patients may take Coumadin/Warfarin, depending on their medical history.

The specifics of your pain management plan will be discussed in more detail during your preoperative history & physical, approximately 2-4 weeks before your surgery.
